Just got the letter from Fund for Teachers that I received a grant to go study Pueblo and Folk art in New Mexico for two weeks this summer with CRIZMAC!!!! I am so excited!!!! When I return I will be working to create a cross content Southwestern themed school wide festival!

"Hooked on Art"

The "Hooked on Art" program came to visit my schools a couple of months ago.  I wrote a grant and was awarded the money to pay for the program from our local Wal-Mart!  Becky Guinn is a retired art teacher who developed is a quad-amputee.  She has prosthetic arms and legs and hooks for hands.  Her wonderful program brings character education as well as art and science connections to schools across Alabama.  You can learn more about her and her beautiful art from her website.

Tar Paper Sea Creatures

I painted some large scale tar paper paintings for a recent commission ..24 x 36 inches in size.  I love the squid and am digging the colors of both pieces!  I also have found painting these very therapeutic.  Intentionally leaving the black of the tar paper showing through on outlines adds a lot of character and makes the painting process less stressful and more freeing.  Yes!

Meurita

I got a solar powered dancing skeleton at the dollar tree recently.  He was a little bland, so I painted his face and turned him into a dancing sugar skull.  He is currently living on the dashboard of my car, cheering up passengers and myself daily!  We named him "Muerita" which I believe would translate into "Little Death."
